As the waves washed gently on the wooden shijp, China sits patiently at the bottom of his banana crate. He waits for the day he can show his tattered face to the once befriended sun. As he waits, he hears the deckhands prod tirelessly back and forth with the mops, making sure every particle of matter is wiped clean from the slate of redwood, cut fresh the the forests of california. His mind is clear, his mind is set, and yet his mind races at the thought of food. The only water his tongue has seen for weeks has been salt. The last sentence he said ended a mans life. He sits. Rotting in his own boredom. He has come to crave the hallucinations induced by starvation, they give strange meaning to his meaningless existence. He speaks with the women next to him, she tells him about her life in Mexico with her six and one half children. She says not to worry about the half child, he will be okay in the end. A crate next to China falls from the lullaby like sway of the shijp, it startles him. When he looks back to reply to the woman she has disappeared, evaporated back into his ever slipping thoughts. The shot of excitement had snapped him back into a slice of reality, but he was now once again comfortably beneath the blanket of his own drifting mind. He closes his eyes and thinks of music. These are the Tapes of a stowaway.
